Cheesy oat sticks

Suitable for toddlers and older children
Makes 2 dozens



Ingredients


• 1 cup quick cooking oats (uncooked)

• 1 cup self-raising flour

• 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

• 1 tbsp baking powder

• 1/2 tsp ground pepper (optional)

• 1/2 tsp baking soda

• 2 tbsps chopped chives

• 3 tbsps margarine

• 3/4 cup milk

• 1 egg white, slightly beaten



Method


1. Heat oven to 220°C (450°F).

2. Combine the first seven ingredients; mix well.

3. Cut in margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add milk, mixing just until moistened.

5. Turn out onto lightly floured surface; knead gently 10 times.

6. Pat dough into rectangle about 1/2 inch thick; cut into 4x1/2 inch strips with sharp knife.

7. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet; brush tops with egg white.

8. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.


Note: This makes a superb finger food for young children.
