Fun and healthy toddler parties
Toddler parties can be fun and healthy too! Although there is a
gamut of restaurants that can offer burgers, fries and milkshakes and their service
for that unforgettable day, it pays to do some proper meal planning to provide balance
and variety.
If you are hosting the party, it is important too keep a sense of nutritional perspective
about party food.
Planning a party spread is easy to follow the same guidelines you would in planning
any other meal. Variety and balance that includes carbohydrates, protein , fats,
vitamins and minerals is essential.
• Simple and scrumptious sandwiches are well liked by toddlers and pre-school children.
You can make fancy sandwiches by cutting them into different shapes like clown,
boat, bird, fish, or any other object.
• Spreads such as soft cheese, chopped meat or fish in mayonnaise or a good quality
chocolate spread are great for sandwiches.
• Sandwich dips or just dips can be made with cottage cheese mixed with tomato paste.
Avocado dip is also great! Serve dips with cakes, crackers or raw vegetables cut
into fun shapes
• Colorful pasta salads with chopped vegetables can make for a colorful and fun
dish. Top it with cheese - a favorite among toddlers
• Slices of pizza are usually popular; you can make this quickly and easily with
ready to use bread dough. Spread tomato paste and add healthier toppings like vegetables,
tuna, corn pineapple and peppers.
• Instead of soft drinks, serve juices. Fresh juices with a combination of fruits
are nutritious and delicious. Milk is also an healthy alternative.
• If you plan to give out bags of goodies, it need not be all candies. A small chocolate
bar is fine, but other goodies can include creative non-food items, like crayons
or small toys instead of candies.
