Roxanne Lau, Careline Advisor
Growing children have growing needs, this section will guide you through your children’s cognitive, emotional and physical development.  It is also full of useful nutrition advice for your child’s ever increasing energy and nutritional requirements and growth. This is a great stage in your child’s life as they become more interactive and engaging, but with their increased language and curiosity there may be some questions you can’t answer;  remember we’re always here to support you.

One way to teach your child to eat healthily and to instill interest in her food is to involve her in the preparation of food. Here's a simple and refreshing recipe to start her off:

Watermelon Cooler:
• 1 cup watermelon flesh (remove seeds, cut into cubes)
• ½ cup ice cubes

Cut the watermelon into cubes. In a food processor, blend watermelon and ice cubes until completely smooth. Serve in a tall plastic cup with a straw.

Other ways to increase her interest in food is to involve her in gardening (start by growing some tomato plants in a pot or some bean sprouts in a small plastic container) and grocery shopping. While you are at it, explain in simple terms some of the nutrients in food and why it is important for her to eat these foods. For example, milk contains calcium - a nutrient that make her bones and teeth strong.
