Baby food safety
Babies are small eaters. When feeding your baby, do NOT feed directly from the jar or a big bowl of food, as unfinished food may result in unnecessary wastage or transfer of bacteria from baby's mouth to the food, leading to food born illnesses such as vomiting or diarrhoea, if food is re-fed at a later time.
So, to ensure food safety when feeding your baby, here's what you should do:
• Spoon small portions of food into a feeding dish with a clean and dry spoon. Add more if your baby has finished the food in the dish and is still hungry
• Store all opened jars in the refrigerator for safe usage for up to three days. Unopened jars are safe until the expiry date.
• Unfinished home-cooked food should be freezed in small portions in sterilized airtight containers or ice cube trays placed in a sealed freezer bag, and clearly labeled. To defrost baby food, either leave it to defrost in the fridge overnight or in a microwave oven. When reheating, ensure that the food is heated thoroughly and then left to cool before feeding. Defrosted food should be eaten on the same day and any leftovers discarded.
• If food is not frozen, it should be stored in the fridge up to a day.
