Healthy snacking during the holidays

Parents commonly face a difficult time during the holidays as routines breakdown. As children have more free time, they are likely to eat more junk food, watch more TV, play more computer games and be less active.

Therefore school holidays should be an opportunity to inculcate healthy eating habits by offering healthier snacks to resist the temptation to eat whatever they want.

Here are some tips for providing appropriate snacks and portion sizes and getting kids interested in nutritious snacks at different ages.

Some snack time tips:

• Offer a variety of snacks
• Be creative in presentation
• Don't give up if child is a picky eater

Healthy eating should also be done in conjunction with exercise. You can set the right example by engaging in physical activities along with your child.
