Test your baby's milk meter

Getting the right nutrients can help boost your newborn’s immunity and protect your baby against infections. And with milk being all baby gets on his or her menu each day, it’s even more important that baby has had enough milk.

But with all the celebrations surrounding your baby’s arrival and the stresses of caring for a newborn, how do you know if your little bundle is getting enough essential milk? Here’s a quick Milk Meter to see if baby is getting his or her fill.

• Is baby moving his or her bowels at least twice a day? (Newborn to 1 week old)
• Is baby moving his or her bowels at least five times a day? (Age 1 to 4 weeks)
• Does baby have a wet diaper at least six times a day?
• Is baby gaining weight according to his or her age and gender?
• Are you feeding your newborn once every 90 minutes to 3 hours?

If you notice that your baby is not gaining weight or has problems moving his or her bowels, talk to your paediatrician just to make sure that your baby’s on the right track.
