How To Avoid Jaundice During Pregnancy?

Careline

Arora Valley answered:

There is no evidence that any foods (like ginger) consumed by the breastfeeding mother will cause baby to be jaundiced or avoid jaundice in the newborn. Jaundice is due to the accumulation of bilirubin in the baby’s body. Bilirubin is a by-product of red blood cell breakdown, which occurs naturally every day. However, as the newborn baby’s liver is immature, bilirubin breakdown is slow, leading to its accumulation and the characteristic yellow colour of baby’s skin and eyes. Jaundice is more common in preterm babies and babies who have not been nursing well. For breastfeeding mothers, you should nurse your baby at least 8 to 12 times a day for the first few days. This will help you produce enough milk ,help keep baby's bilirubin level down and keep your baby well hydrated. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about how much or how often your baby is feeding or if you're having trouble breastfeeding.

Neonatal jaundice is caused by breakdown of red blood cells which leads to the production of bilirubin. Bilirubin deposition on the skin, eyes and mouth will cause it to have a yellow tinge. Up to 60% of newborns have jaundice and most of the time, it is due to the liver being too immature to handle the high levels of bilirubin. There is no known foods or drinks that will cause or worsen jaundice in babies

Most healthy babies develop a yellowish tinge to their skin in the first few days of life. If your baby does, it's probably nothing to worry about. Your doctor will monitor your baby during the first few days, especially if your baby's abdomen or legs look yellow. If your child is born full-term, she's sure to look like a healthy baby within a week. It may take a bit longer for her skin to take on a rosy glow if she is born prematurely. fruits can help prevent jaundice, as they help to cleanse the body of toxins. Regularly incorporate pears, apples, grapes and pineapples into your diet. Also, citrus fruits such as oranges help prevent the production of bilirubin. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. This will flush toxins that lead to jaundice out of your system. Coconut juice and barley water also help eliminate toxins from your body . A healthy diet filled with green leafy vegetables can help prevent jaundice.Regular exercise and sleep enhance the effects of a healthy diet. Excessive amounts of caffeine and sugar can affect your liver and cause jaundice. Limit your intake of soda, tea, coffee and other beverages that contain caffeine or artificial sweeteners . Processed foods, saturated fat and fried foods can stress your liver, possibly leading to jaundice. Eat whole foods whenever possible and limit fatty meats. a diet high in meats disrupts your digestive system, thus decreasing your body's ability to remove toxins Legumes and pulses should be limited, as they also disrupt your digestive system .

Jaundice is the result of a raised level of bilirubin, a yellow pigment by product that results when red blood cells breakdown. Baby's immature liver is unable to clear the excess buildup of bilirubin fast enough causing it to accumulate in the blood. For a newborn baby, the condition is common. There are a lot of factors that work together to create jaundice and there is little you can do prenatally to prevent jaundice. As a pregnant woman, you need to take care of your pregnancy well as a healthy mother during pregnancy can help prevent problems with the baby. Eat right and take prenatal vitamins throughout your pregnancy term. Avoid excessive activity as this may cause fatigue which may result you to go into early labor. One risk factor for jaundice is premature labor.

What i understand from my pediatrician is that all babies have jaundice, the question is how high is the level. If your baby has higher level of jaundice, avoid too much ginger and no alcohol during confinement as ginger is a main cause of jaundice.
