Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup blueberries, thawed if frozen
  • 1/2 cup red berries, such as strawberries or raspberries OR 1/2 cup more blueberries
  • 1 cup plain or vanilla whole milk or organic yoghurt

Stove or oven method:

If using fresh strawberries, remove stems and slice into quarters. If using frozen, thaw the berries in refrigerator before use.

Add berries into blender and purée until smooth. Pass berry purée through sieve to remove excess seeds.

Once seeds are removed and purée is completely smooth, stir in milk or yoghurt. Mix until well combined.

Tips:

Freeze any remaining mixture in ice cube trays, and simply thaw them out in the refrigerator for use. Do not keep mixture longer than 48 hours.

Berries provide vitamins, minerals and important anti-oxidants but if your child shows signs of allergies of any kind, hold off until you have checked with your doctor.
