Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

"It is often believed that using rice wine during confinement keeps the body warm and improves blood circulation. There is no medical reasoning behind this recommendation. In moderation, it is safe to consume special confinement wine because during cooking alcohol evaporates. But if taken in excessive amounts it may affect you and your baby adversely. According to HPB, do remember that alcohol may be transmitted through breast milk to your baby. This may affect the liver and worsen Jaundice. Furthermore there are various substances present in the preparation that we are not fully aware of. Alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy, confinement and if you are breast feeding."

"My confinement lady cooked most of my food with those rice wine. The alcohol will evaporate upon cooking at high temperature, so should be safe to consume even if you are breastfeeding. Unless you are allergic to yeast or glutinous rice, then better don't cook food with it."
