Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

Toothpaste For Babies/Toddlers

"When looking for a baby toothpaste, choose the one which is specifically manufactured and labeled for use in children. While the primary ingredients in most toothpaste are same which includes --some type of abrasive, fluoride and a flavoring, but the ingredients and quantity of ingredients are different in adult and baby toothpaste. When a few teeth appear, you can start using toothpaste with your child's brush. However, for the first two years, be sure to choose toothpaste that does not contain fluoride. Excessive amounts of fluoride can cause harm to developing teeth, causing Flourosis. At this stage, use only a tiny pea-sized amount of toothpaste. From the beginning, have your little one practice spitting the toothpaste out after brushing to prepare her or him for fluoride toothpaste, which should not be swallowed at any age. Baby toothpaste should contain no sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), as this is known to cause mouth ulcers in some young children. Do give in to demands for fruity flavors, sparkles, or cute characters if it fuels your child’s excitement for and commitment to brushing. Also make sure not to keep your child's toothbrush for more than three months, or after the bristles have started to spread out. Check with your family dentist if in doubt of which toothpaste to choose."

"I'm using kodomo children toothpaste But my girl somehow still don't like brushing. Flavored toothpaste does helps in enticing her to brush though. Mine is the strawberry flavored. Try starting from the children toothpaste available in major supermarkets. Adult toothpaste not recommended as the fluoride taste may be too strong for them."

"I let my boy use Kodomo children toothpaste. There are a few flavors, and he prefers the strawberry one. I'm not too sure if we can let them use adult toothpaste, but probably only when they are much older. I remembered reading in some article that too much fluoride can be harmful for young children. Hence the children toothpaste will be more suitable as it has less fluoride as compared to normal adult toothpaste."

"Depends on whether you kid knows he can't swallow the toothpaste, and needs to rinse his mouth after brushing. I'm still using those baby toothpaste for my 28mth boy currently, but because they usually don't foam, it's hard to train them to spit out. I found an in-between organic toothpaste recently. It foams so I educate my boy to spit and rinse, but it's safe to swallow if he accidentally did. Hope it helps to transit him to chindren's toothpaste later on..."

"I recommend using Earth;s best or Orajel as they're fluoride-free, so it's safe to swallow especially if the toddler hasn't learnt to spit. After they master the skill of gurgling and spitting, I'll just let them choose whatever kids toothpaste that are easily available. So far, Kodomo wins cos of it's yummy flavours ;)"
