Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

"Thanks for your question! Our Healthcare Expert will be answering some questions every week but in the meantime, here's a little tip from our Careline! It is recommended to prepare milk formula with boiled water at approximately 40 degree Celsius. Dumex Mamil Gold Stage 2 contains an internationally patented prebiotic blend, where prebiotics are non-digestible carbohydrates and they stimulate the growth of the healthy flora in the gut. Prebiotics are often known as “the food for the probiotics”. On the other hand, probiotics are heat sensitive and they will thrive best at their optimal temperature. A tip to ensure the right temperature of water is when it is warm to touch against the skin. The temperature should be lowered slightly after the addition of milk powder and heat can be release through dissolving of milk powder through mixing. It is normal to have some foam when preparing milk, especially if the feeding bottle is shaken vigorously. The foam that is seen after mixing the milk will go to the bottom of the bottle as your baby drinks the milk thus will not cause any wind in your baby. You may like to consider to add the powder to water then set it aside, to allow the powder to sink in the water before swirling the feeding bottle gently in circular motion to mix the power with boiled water. In this way, the foam will be reduced. Alternatively, you may also use sterile spoon to dissolve the formula."

"Ic. Thank for the advise. This is quite difference from Nestle Nan stage 1 who advise no higher than body temp in order not to kill the probiotics.. Just like breastmilk are to be heated not higher than body Temperature to retain the nutrient. 40 degree is quite hot when tested on the front hand."

"I read from website and also as advised by the parentcraft nurses, the recommended temp is indeed around 40 degree c. It wont kill the good bacteria yet..and also wont burn the kids throat/tongue also. But u need to take note of course, before feeding your child the milk, always test the temp first by dipping abit of the milk onto your wrists to make sure its not burnig hot. U cannot shake the bottle so much, otherwise will have bubbles and air. I only used a sterile stirrer to stir the milk in the bottle btw."
